Heart Junk Journal

Hello lovely people!

Here is a new journal I made!

n-068

It is made almost entirely out of recycled materials. I just looove when I’m able to turn “junk” into something beautiful and useful.

n-069

I took a piece of soft plastic sheet that was sitting in my studio for ages, layered it with some soft (again) plastic packaging material and cotton fabric, stitched them and made the cover. Then I added an applique piece to the front cover which was made with cotton fabric and silk, and I think it looks just right for this journal. Of course, the closure was also made with a recycled piece, a  band that came from my mother’s shirt, brand new, just unwanted, 🙂  and I added my handmade fabric beads to the ends to make it more pretty. There are also my handmade beads on the spine, as well as on the inside of the journal.

n-071

There are stitched book pages in there, my handmade papers, plain white pages, etc.

n-072

Oohhh it makes me so happy! I really love this journal. So colorful and cute!

n-073

The above photo shows an envelope that I made out of a book page, stitched and painted and clipped to the page. There is so much room in this journal for writing and adding things!

And that is it! I hope you like it, and I hope it will give you some ideas on how to recycle more. 🙂 You can find this lovely fun journal in my Etsy store.

Thank you for visiting!

I’m Still Here

Hello lovely people! It’s been a long time since I wrote my last post, but I am here now, with something new to show you. 🙂

I’ve been knitting socks (but didn’t photograph them unfortunately), playing with paper and paint, making beads etc. All kinds of stuff. But mostly making journals.

Painting

Recycling

These are all recycled papers and packaging material, painted, stamped and stenciled, and prepared for the journal making. Even though you can see only blue pages in these photos, I’ve made all kinds of colorful pages. I decided to go a bit “wild” and use colors I don’t usually use, just for fun. And this journal came to be – “The Circus”. 🙂

It’s made entirely out of recycled/reused materials and I love it!

But this one is not going to be mine. I have too many journals already. 🙂

Circus

This journal, as you can see, has all kinds of papers inside, and with so much texture and pages that are different sizes, with lots of pockets and tags, it will be fun fun fun to write in!

Circus

So instead of making a Christmas themed journal, I decided to make a Spring/Summer one. Well, we all need a bit of color and warmth every now and then, right? 🙂 Next time I’ll show you another journal, and maybe more of the stuff I’ve made (if I remember to take photos, lol!)

Have a great day!

Fabric Collage (Work in Progress)

Hello lovely people! Here I am with another recycling project! Fabric collage!

As you know, I collect all kinds of materials and junk which I then like to transform into something beautiful and useful. And here is what I’m doing right now – making journal covers from small pieces of fabric (leftovers) and, well, junk. 🙂

I used some plastic, kind of foamy, packaging material as a middle layer of the journal cover.

Plastic

I’m sorry for the next photo, it’s bad because there was no sun when I took it, but you’ll get the idea of what I was doing. I started stitching fabric scraps onto the plastic, adding fabric pieces randomly and without too much thinking about it.

Sewing onto plastic

Continue adding fabric pieces until you cover the plastic and you will end up with something like this:

Fabric collage

As you can see, after I stitched all the pieces onto the plastic, I then zigzagged the edges so they don’t fray. It also adds details to the whole piece. I like that. Fun! 🙂

Fabric collage

Then it’s time to add the backing, and you can use, again, what ever material you like – paper, fabric, plastic…I used more of my leftover pieces of fabric.

The back

I left it like this and continued working on another collage piece, and then another and another, and I can’t show them all to you now, but I promise I will soon. Here is one more:

Fabric collage

I can’t wait to start hand stitching and decorating this journal cover.

And here is a peek into two small covers, already taking shape and starting to look beautiful. 🙂

Journal covers

This is a wonderful way to tidy up the studio, use all those fabric leftovers and junk, and make something lovely! This doesn’t have to be turned into a journal cover. It could be sewn into a fun clutch or a bag, maybe a set of coasters or oven mitts, or even a doormat! There are so many more possibilities!

Have a great weekend! 🙂

And The Winner Is…

Hi friends! I don’t want to keep you waiting anymore, so here is the winner of my giveaway!

V1 073

Congratulations Deb! Your prize will be on it’s way in a day or two. 🙂

Thank you all for participating! I hope to have another giveaway soon. It’s so much fun!

I also want to share with you a new journal. Simple off white velvet covers, hand and machine stitched, with lace and a little bit of glittery fabric paint.

It has mixed papers inside, and it’s perfect for drawing, sketching, writing…

I didn’t add too much to the covers, this time I wanted a simple design. The velvet is so nice to touch that I couldn’t cover it too much. 🙂

Journal

In this last photo you can see a little bit of that shimmer, although it’s so much more beautiful ‘in real life’.

Update on spring cleaning odyssey: we are finishing painting the walls, which means that my windows are still dirty, but we are slowly getting to where we want to be. It’s all upside down kind of work, we should have painted the walls first and then switched the rooms and then cleaned everything up, but since the studio walls don’t need to be painted, it’s ok. Now we have only living room to paint, then I have to clean the windows, and then I will be able to show you how it all looks. But I am so tired! Not that I work and clean all the time, I also make all kinds of things, but it’s non stop doing something! And today I had to keep it slow. I just couldn’t do anything anymore. But tomorrow is a new day and more work! 🙂

Thank you once again for visiting my blog and for your lovely comments. I love hearing from you! Have a wonderful day/night!

Spring Cleaning?

I think my cleaning will be a looong process. Everywhere I turn I seem to find interesting things to play with! First I went through my books to see what will stay and what will be donated to library or given to friends, because I buy books all the time and I don’t have the space anymore to keep them all. And sure enough, I found many books that are just perfect for altering! 🙂 But I did put aside two huge bags for donation and that feels good. I loved reading them and now someone else will be able to enjoy them.

Then I “found” some clothes that are going to be recycled and I already have a million ideas for that! So, for now I have one altered book that I’m working on, some fabric recycling projects that I’m working on, my fabric stash is checked and reduced just a tiny bit, resulting in this:

As you can see, I added eco dyed paper to this journal, along with my handmade paper, which means I now have to make more paper and dye more paper, and now I have ideas for that too! 🙂

V. 080

Looking through my yarn also resulted in finding some interesting lonely skeins which simply begged me to use them. And I did! I wove a scarf! I can’t show it to you now as it has to be washed first, but I can already see this cleaning as a never ending story. 🙂

And it’s not over yet! I made two junk mail journals! You know how it is – you start sorting and cleaning your shoes, and then you find shoe boxes that you don’t need, right? So you think: “Well this box is nice and colorful, I could make something with it!” Right? 🙂 It turns out my favorite shoes came in a very pretty box that I used to make two journal covers! How cool is that! And all those papers and junk mail finally found their home. Ahhh, by the end of Winter I will have a clean home. LOL!

Look at all these papers and envelopes and bags that will NOT go to trash! It feels so good knowing that I helped the Earth at least a tiny bit.

Now it’s paint/art journaling time! Oh yeah, and cleaning too! Or maybe weaving?

As you can see, I am officially gone crazy, but there is nothing so amazing as this creative madness! I must enjoy it while it lasts. 🙂

Before I Go

It’s time for traveling! We are going to visit the parents, travel to Slovenia, go to the mountains (no matter how bad the weather might be), and hopefully have a wonderful time! Yay! We have almost three weeks for all that, and with hubby working long hours lately, this is exactly what we needed. Time for fun and to just be together.

So I made a big bag for moi, and a small bag to go inside of a big one, for makeup and other lady’s things that a lady needs on her travels. 🙂

I also made a travel journal, or better say I decorated a journal I made some time ago, added things to the cover, and a bit on the inside, just to make it more interesting. I didn’t have the time to make a completely new one, so this little thing came in handy. I like it.

It needs a title, which will be “Slovenia 2014”. 🙂

V. 051

It’s small, 6×3,5 inches, but it’s big enough for a five days trip.

Slow Weekend

Yep, it’s been two days of doing almost nothing. Almost. 🙂 And it felt good.

Reading books and playing computer games.

Meda doesn’t read books but he sure knows how to take a nap in the afternoon. 🙂

I did nothing in the studio for the whole weekend, except just looking around, planing my next move. I have some ideas…

This and that on my messy cork board:

A gorgeous bird my friend Mary from England made. Mary is such a great friend and has a special place in my heart. I love this bird and it’s now in the center of my work space.

We ate cookies.  🙂

A friend brought me some lovely laces and needle work! What a great present! I will use them for my journals.

V. 068

Last week was all about making slippers. I wanted to recycle some old T shirts and clothes that were just laying around, in hope that it would make my studio look more tidy, (but of course it all ended up looking like a bomb site, again), so I thought “why not making slippers for the first time in my life!”. The good thing is that I made something I’ve never made before, which means I’ve learned something new, which also means I now know that it’s not that easy to make a good slipper with a straight seam. lol!

V. 044

But I had to try. And as imperfect as they are, these slippers are cozy and fun. A pair for me, a pair for hubby, one for mommy, one for daddy, one for aunty… If you make too many, give them to people! 🙂

As well as a pot holder or two.
