Journal Therapy

Hello lovely people! It’s been a busy month. Hubby went to Germany (business stuff again) and he will be away for two years! I am trying to keep a happy face but it’s not easy. I miss him. He will come home for Christmas, but until then Meda and I will be home alone. I also discovered a small growth on Meda’s shoulder, and since he had a cancerous growth removed from almost the same spot several years ago, I am terrified! The only thing I can do is wait and see if that thing is growing, and to hope that it’s not cancer again but maybe just some fatty tissue or something like that.

Luckily, I have my journals to help me stay sane (or at least close to that). My diary is filled (after one year),

Diary

and now I started writing in my junk journal.

Junk Journal

It’s fun to write in, with all those different colors and textures and different page sizes.

Junk Journal

I also played with some of my homemade stamps.

And started working in a new journal, the biggest one so far, A4 size. It’s actually an altered book in which I glue things down. It all started with wonderful magazine pages that I didn’t want to cut. I wanted the whole picture to be seen so this journal is perfect for that.

Art Journal

Some of the pages will stay the way they are now and some will have things added to them. It’s so great to have a nice base to work on later.

I also used some of the papers that I used to clean the brushes on, and made quick and fun pages.

I have too many journals, I know. But there is no law against that, right? πŸ™‚

I Painted Something!

I don’t paint. I don’t think I know how to do that. The mess I make in my Art Journal is (I think) just a mess, my way to feel free and to do what ever I want. But for some reason, about a month ago I felt the need to paint and I knew exactly what I wanted. Texture, color, and more texture.

These look lovely on the wall. πŸ™‚

And there is one more!

I just had to paint these. It felt like they had to come out of my head, and nowΒ  that they did, I feel great!

Still think I can’t paint though.

But I am happy with these paintings.

Crazy.

Paper Fun

Hello lovely people! Today I want to share with you my journal pages, and also a fun recycling project.

First, the pages from my art journal.

Inchies found a new home in my “Handmade paper journal”. πŸ™‚

Inchies

This journal is almost finished, just two or three pages left. I like how this spread turned out, with most of my inchies in one place.

I also stapled some old doodles in this journal. There were too many loose pages lying around and now they are all nice and tidy in one journal.

This next page is about the floods, and the word means “Hope”:

And now my recycling project! How do you like these earrings? πŸ™‚

Earrings

They were made out of magazines. You could use newspapers or any kind of paper – old books for example. Just take a magazine and without ripping out the pages, start gluing the pages together. Add glue (white school glue) with a brush to the whole page, then put another page on top of it, press it down and try to smooth it out as much as you can, then repeat the process until you have enough pages, about two or three millimeters thick.

This next photo is not very good but you can see that the paper looks pretty flat.

It is easy to cut it while it’s still a bit wet, although it will also be easy to cut when it’s dry but then you won’t be able to manipulate it much. So, cut your template out of any kind of paper and trace it down on your glued magazine, cut your shape, then bend it if you wish.

V1 039

V1 038

Let it dry. It’s best to leave it over night. After that, you will need a fine sanding paper to smooth out the edges, and acrylic paint of your choice. Here’s what I’ve done:

V1 042

As you can see, in some of the earrings paper has some wrinkles, and I actually like that! They have a nice texture which you can enhance with paint if you wish.

V1 045

To finish them, add a coat or two of varnish or any kind of glossy finish, maybe even a bit of sparkle, and you can have something like this:

You could make all kinds of things with this technique – pendants, beads if you use thicker paper, bracelets, even small plates. So many possibilities! And even though it takes a bit of time, it’s very easy and very inexpensive. So if you have time to play, or you need to take your mind of some problem (as it was the case with me), try this. πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

A Wonderful Weekend

Sunny weather means spending time outside with hubby and our dog. With a bit of shopping of course. πŸ™‚

My cousin gave me a huge bag full of books. There are nearly forty books there, ready to be altered! Pure joy!

Knjige

It’s funny how people react when I tell them that I want their “trash”. Old doilies, buttons, ribbons, books, all kinds of things they wanted to throw out but felt bad about it. When they give those things to me, they feel better knowing they will be reused or recycled, and I feel great having more things to play with or to make art. So everybody’s happy. πŸ™‚

Journal Pages

Playing again in my journals. I like working in several journals at the same time, adding this or that when I want toΒ  and when I feel inspired. It does make a mess on my table, but who cares! πŸ™‚

Here is a spread I did in my “Texture Journal”, or “Handmade Paper Journal”. I just love the look of the pages, and when I finish working in this journal, which is going to be soon as it is almost full, I plan to make a new batch of papers textural and thick like these. πŸ™‚

Then some pages from my “Small Journal” that is growing and growing as I keep adding to it. I use old post cards, scrap paper and cardboard, packaging material etc to work on, then punch holes and eventually it will be bound with some fun and colorful yarn. πŸ™‚

Busy Days

I have a writing block. For some reason, I get stuck every now and then, not being able to write in English, even though I have so much that I want to share with you. I don’t know how to start a blog post, I don’t know how to express my feelings. And it annoys me. A lot. But, that is the case right now, and all I can do is to try to make a few sentences and post the photos for you to see, and hope for this to go away until my next post. πŸ™‚

So, what have I been doing lately? Well, first it was my Birthday on September 18th. I made my self a lovely chocolate cake, and was quite pleased with my first sugar lace decoration ever! πŸ™‚

3# 010

Then I cooked and cooked as we had guests almost every day. Friends, my parents, hubby’s parents, lunch, dinner, breakfast, cooking, baking, oh it was so much fun! Yes, I mean it! It was fun! I love to cook, and with this Autumn atmosphere it feels even better! The weather was mostly sunny these days, a bit cold, leaves are just starting to change color, and that’s the only part of Autumn that I like. That is the time when I feel very homy and all I want to do is cook and bake. Not good for my figure though, I should be avoiding bread and cakes, but, oh dear, it is so hard! I should’ve taken photos of all the food I prepared as I know some of you would love to see how we eat here in Serbia. I promise I’ll start taking the camera with me to the kitchen. πŸ™‚

I received a heart warming mail, two gorgeous hand painted cards from Terri, my Internet friend who’s drawings and paintings are gorgeous and a constant inspiration for me.

3# 025

She was so kind to send me the cards that I loved the most, although I love everything she does, and I’m always jealous because I can’t paint like that. πŸ™‚ But look at those beauties! I’m going to frame the flower and have it on my bedroom wall, and the tree is going into my diary so that I can always have it with me. Thank you Terri for this wonderful gift!

Speaking of bedroom walls, I’ve decided to do another recycling project, using different sizes of styrofoam (because those were the only pieces I had) and paper from an old book and a music sheet. It started like this:

C 062

I glued the papers onto the styrofoam, actually the papersΒ  were glued to each other as the styrofoam didn’t want to “accept” the glue, and then when it dried, I painted the whole thing with some white paint watered down a bit, and at the end with shimmery finish. So I got a lovely jewelry holder:

3# 028

3# 029

I hope that you can see the papers coming through a bit. Here is the one for my necklaces:

3# 030

The problem with my walls is that they are made out of concrete. And if I’d want to put something on my wall, I would need a special drilling tool for that, which I don’t have, and to call someone (and pay for it) to come and drill a hole or two every time I want to hang a picture or something else is pain in the… πŸ™‚ So I glue things on the wall with double sided tape. Good thing with my jewelry holders is that they are light and easy to glue to the wall. I will show you the whole wall once I have all the photos and pictures on it, glued of course. LOL!

Oh, my writing block is subsiding! :))

Anyway, I have some Art Journal pages to show you also, from different journals.
