After a Long Time

I’m not sure how to start this post. It’s been so long, so many things happened (both good and bad) that now I just don’t know where to start.

I’ve been writing and deleting who knows how many times.

Well, this isn’t working, I just deleted half a page of text, so let me just tell you: after a period of almost nine months of shit I am finally back to my good old self. I can create again, I can blog again, I can do all kinds of things instead of just reading books and waiting for my husband to come home from his business trip to Germany (which started in November 2014 and should end in July 2016. !!!) The only good thing in all that time was MY trip to Germany. 🙂 I’ve stayed there for a month and a half in March/April. And here are the photos to prove it 🙂

If you ask yourself why I’m standing like this (photo below) it’s because of Mr. Beethoven behind me. A pose for a great classical music.

And of course, a Royal pose in front of a castle.

And now, after hubby’s Summer break, he will leave for Germany again, and I will be here for a couple of months until I go to Hamburg to be with him. But I hope to make lots and lots of journals before I go. And to weave. And to blog. Well, we’ll see how it goes. But I will try, I promise.

Before I Go

I don’t know how to travel light. I always carry a million things with me, “just in case I need them”. And I’m not talking about clothes or shoes. I’m talking about my favorite coffee mug, my favorite coffee 🙂  (we are not hotel people, we are camping people), all kinds of lotions and medicine, books and more books, journals and pens, etc.

This year we decided it would be easier for us to rent a tent in Greece instead of going with a caravan or our tent. Long story. But I hope it will be a good vacation. And I also hope the weather will be good as this whole summer was pretty messed up – we had rain almost every day. We’ll see.

Anyway, I wanted to show you some of my latest works. The ones I managed to photograph. 🙂

I made a journal with fabric cover made from scraps.

I like how it looks and how it feels in my hands. 🙂 All those fabric pieces that I’ve stitched together, each having it’s own story and now making a cover for a journal that will hold another story. Wonderful.  And it is quite big – 25×20 cm.

Here is the back:

I wanted something different this time, so I made a velcro closure. It’s something that I’ll definitely do again.

Mixed papers inside, of course, because it’s more interesting that way. 🙂

I usually get inspired by the upcoming trip and make a travel journal that represents that destination in some way (even if I’m the only one who can see that, lol!) but this time I didn’t think of Greece, the sea and the sun while I was making it.

But all these fabric pieces with wavy stitching do remind me of waves, and the colors are those of the Sun and the sand. Not to mention the heart on the cover. It definitely represents my love for Greece. 🙂 So, I guess this journal had it’s own ideas that lead me while I was making it. I do like to think that way.

Another thing I wanted to show you is a woven project, my waffle weave towels. Now, those are some serious ‘seaside’ colors LOL, but they are not going to Greece with me!

Handwoven towels

I’m still not sure if I’m going to keep them or give them as a gift. I must say they would look beautiful in my bathroom. 🙂

Have a great day everyone!

Holiday is Over

Yep, it’s over, we came home ten days ago, and I now want to go on holiday again! 🙂

As soon as we came home I started preparing food for winter – making tomato juice, tomato sauce and other things with peppers, aubergines etc. I have no idea how to translate those (cooked) things in English, but here in my country it’s a must to have jarred delicious vegetable winter food. It’s a lot of work, but it’s a homemade food, which is always better than the store bought one.

So, it’s been a busy week after holiday, but now that the food is mostly ready, I can concentrate on doing something artsy! But since I have nothing ready yet to show you, here are some things I made before the holiday. 🙂

My journal, now filled with all kinds of memories from Greece.

C 039

It was a quick and fun project, made with all kinds of fabric scraps, with a yellow felt circle and a blue lacy embellishment on the front to symbolize the sun and the sea. I filled it with my handmade paper and other mostly recycled papers.

C 045

I added handmade beads and pieces of yarn to the spine, just for fun.

C 048

And in Greece, I had a great time writing in it and playing with it. 🙂

I also made clay pendants and embellishments. These are almost finished, waiting to be transformed into jewelry, but I have a lot more that need to be painted and sealed with varnish.

C 059

Another crocheted bag, ordered by a lovely lady who liked the one I made for my self and wanted the same bag, although this one turned out a little bit darker and bigger.  But she loved it!

I also made her a small crocheted envelope bag for tissues or a cell phone.

Now that I’m looking at these photos, it’s obvious to me that the same color repeats over and over again, my favorite, blue. Which also shows in this journal spread:

It needs a little something to be finished, I just don’t know what it is yet. But no matter how hard I try to use other colors, I always end up using blue. Hmmm…What does it mean? 🙂

Shawls and Pumpkins

Two more shawls are done, and now I only need to wash and iron them.

They were made with the same warp, but with different weft yarn so I got two different shawls. They are so soft and warm, and this twill is one of my favorite patterns, which all means I am very satisfied how they turned out.

Because my back gets painful with all this weaving going on, I like to relax on the couch and make some small things (of course I can’t just watch TV, that would be like a waste of time for me,lol!), so I crocheted these cute little pumpkins.

I stuffed them with leftover yarn, and added sequins and beads around the “stem” to add a bit of a sparkle. 🙂 They are 3,5 and 2,5 inches wide and I LOVE them! I think I will make more to give to friends. What’s best about them is that they are fast and easy to make.

And here is another Journal page good enough to be shown publicly 🙂

Have a great day! 🙂
