Before I Go

It’s time for traveling! We are going to visit the parents, travel to Slovenia, go to the mountains (no matter how bad the weather might be), and hopefully have a wonderful time! Yay! We have almost three weeks for all that, and with hubby working long hours lately, this is exactly what we needed. Time for fun and to just be together.

So I made a big bag for moi, and a small bag to go inside of a big one, for makeup and other lady’s things that a lady needs on her travels. πŸ™‚

And a small one

I also made a travel journal, or better say I decorated a journal I made some time ago, added things to the cover, and a bit on the inside, just to make it more interesting. I didn’t have the time to make a completely new one, so this little thing came in handy. I like it.

It needs a title, which will be “Slovenia 2014”. πŸ™‚

It’s small, 6×3,5 inches, but it’s big enough for a five days trip.

That’s it for now! See you soon! πŸ™‚

One Cake and Two Bags

I have been doing a million things lately, sewing, cooking, baking, spending time with friends, etc. But I didn’t photograph much, so here are the things I did manage to photograph. πŸ™‚

A cake recipe that is so versatile and easy to transform into many things. Here is the basic recipe:

5 eggs

1 cup of oil (sunflower oil or any neutral oil)

2 cups of milk or yogurt

4 cups of white sugar

2 tsp. of baking powder

6 cups of flour

Mix the egg whites first, add sugar and mix until they form soft peaks, add yolks, mix some more, then add everything else and mix until combined. It’s that easy!

Now, you could add fruit to the cake and bake it; you could add cinnamon or vanilla extract, or absolutely nothing at all and make a nice spongy cake to have with milk for breakfast; if you bake it half way through and add shredded apples with a little bit of sugar, then of course finish baking, you have a different cake; maybe add some chopped nuts and raisins; make muffins, or just bake a sponge and cut it in half so that you can add cream of choice and icing on top…You see, there are so many possibilities with this recipe! You could even adjust sugar and oil content.

What I did this time was that I reduced sugar a bit, and oil, and I added whole wheat flour instead of white one. Then I added plums, sprinkled a little sugar on them, and baked it. It turned out amazing! Believe me, this recipe always works.

After the cake was eaten πŸ™‚ my husband asked me if I could make him a bag. He wanted a messenger bag with lots of pockets. I’ve never made a messenger bag before, but that didn’t stop me. A little bit of Internet research, and we have a first not so perfect bag

and then a second very good one!

I am very happy with this one, and my husband loves it! He loves the first one too, but the second bag is much sturdier and has more pockets. I combined the cotton fabric with leather to give it a bit of interest, and even though my stitching is not absolutely perfect, it’s not that noticeable. I’m a perfectionist, so when I say it’s ok, then it’s ok. lol! I am so happy hubby likes it. πŸ™‚

Have a great day everyone!

More Sewing

It’s a flu season and I have been very sick for almost ten days! But now that I’m feeling better, I can show you what I have done before and after the flu. πŸ™‚ It all started with yet another cleaning adventure, this time it was the bedroom in which I “found” bed sheets and clothes that were no longer in use. But I don’t throw away things easily, as you know by now. If something can be recycled or reused, it’s going into the studio to be dealt with! πŸ™‚ That means my studio is always a mess, but we are all here used to that. Even the guests don’t pay attention to that anymore.

Anyway, Meda has a new quilt!

It’s a jelly roll kind of quilt made with old linens and clothes.

And I have new bags! Denim skirt and plaid pants turned into this:

V. 005

This one is made with my handwoven fabric and a scrappy heart I made a long time ago. Even the tiniest pieces of fabric can be used to make beautiful things.

V. 006Β That’s a pocket on the front. πŸ™‚

V. 009

There is a pocket on the back too! The handles are from an old leather bag.

V. 010

And a summer bag made with old tees and a beautiful belt that my aunt gave me. She wore that belt when she was a young girl. And now I can wear it too, although not around my waist, lol!

I have so many more ideas! And more clothes to play with!

Have a great time everyone!
