A New Member of the Family

Hello lovely people!

I know. It’s been a looong time since I wrote a blog post. I have been avoiding Internet as much as possible because I needed some time and space for other things. One of those things was work, but I will talk about that some other time. Now, I want to share with you some family news! We have a new dog!

I apologize for bad photos but he is a fast dog. ๐Ÿ™‚

n-031

His name is Tomi (Tommy) and he is cute cute cute!

n-033

He didn’t have a good start in life, being left by the road in the bushes, but this puppy is now ours and we love him! My husband and I went to pick him up on my 40th Birthday. I like to say that he was my special present. ๐Ÿ™‚

Tomi is a mix, funny, full of character, always hungry (but that is obviously a normal thing here in our household, hahaha), and he has the most adorable short legs!

n-039

Meda was a bit confused at the beginning with this new dog taking all of his toys and his bed, but Meda is such a good dog, very patient and sweet, so they are becoming friends more and more each day.

So that’s our new boy. ๐Ÿ™‚ I am so happy we were able to save him. No more lonely days and nights, no more fear, just love, warmth, soft blankets and lots of yummy things in the fridge,LOL!

A Wonderful Weekend

Sunny weather means spending time outside with hubby and our dog. With a bit of shopping of course. ๐Ÿ™‚

My cousin gave me a huge bag full of books. There are nearly forty books there, ready to be altered! Pure joy!

Knjige

It’s funny how people react when I tell them that I want their “trash”. Old doilies, buttons, ribbons, books, all kinds of things they wanted to throw out but felt bad about it. When they give those things to me, they feel better knowing they will be reused or recycled, and I feel great having more things to play with or to make art. So everybody’s happy. ๐Ÿ™‚

New Scarves

I’ve finished the year 2013 and started 2014 with weaving scarves. Does that mean this year will be all about weaving? ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t know.

But people wanted scarves, so of course I made lots of them. The problem is that some of them went to their new homes without me taking photos (the mistake I often make).ย  Grrr…

Anyway, here they are.

Saturday

Oh I love Saturdays! The best day of the week! ๐Ÿ™‚

The weather is finally gorgeous again, after days and days of rain, so my husband and I had a lovely walk. Together. No stress. No hurry.

Buying books is always a must. I’ve spent more money on books lately than on clothes, that’s for sure.

Holiday is Over

Yep, it’s over, we came home ten days ago, and I now want to go on holiday again! ๐Ÿ™‚

As soon as we came home I started preparing food for winter – making tomato juice, tomato sauce and other things with peppers, aubergines etc. I have no idea how to translate those (cooked) things in English, but here in my country it’s a must to have jarred delicious vegetable winter food. It’s a lot of work, but it’s a homemade food, which is always better than the store bought one.

So, it’s been a busy week after holiday, but now that the food is mostly ready, I can concentrate on doing something artsy! But since I have nothing ready yet to show you, here are some things I made before the holiday. ๐Ÿ™‚

My journal, now filled with all kinds of memories from Greece.

C 039

It was a quick and fun project, made with all kinds of fabric scraps, with a yellow felt circle and a blue lacy embellishment on the front to symbolize the sun and the sea. I filled it with my handmade paper and other mostly recycled papers.

C 045

I added handmade beads and pieces of yarn to the spine, just for fun.

C 048

And in Greece, I had a great time writing in it and playing with it. ๐Ÿ™‚

C 052

C 055

I also made clay pendants and embellishments. These are almost finished, waiting to be transformed into jewelry, but I have a lot more that need to be painted and sealed with varnish.

C 059

Another crocheted bag, ordered by a lovely lady who liked the one I made for my self and wanted the same bag, although this one turned out a little bit darker and bigger.ย  But she loved it!

C 026

I also made her a small crocheted envelope bag for tissues or a cell phone.

C 029

C 030

C 032

Now that I’m looking at these photos, it’s obvious to me that the same color repeats over and over again, my favorite, blue. Which also shows in this journal spread:

C 035

It needs a little something to be finished, I just don’t know what it is yet. But no matter how hard I try to use other colors, I always end up using blue. Hmmm…What does it mean? ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy End

Another wonderful weekend was spent in the mountains with my parents. It was extremely hot here in Belgrade, so we had to escape.

It was like “Animal Planet” live! ๐Ÿ™‚

A 025

A 068

A 064

A 088

I live in a wonderful part of Belgrade which is full of parks and greenery, with Sava river just a hundred meters from my building. But for me it feels like it’s not a ‘true’ nature. Trees and birds seem so different in the mountains, more natural and free.

A 078

Boots were a must there; when it’s warm, snakes come out! ๐Ÿ™‚

A 084

We found one (edible) mushroom, and gorgeous herbs for tea. Not bad. ๐Ÿ™‚

A 100

But most importantly, we have a little family in our yard! I’m not sure how these birds are called but they are so cute!

A 109

They made the nest in a straw bag (with magazines), which hangs outside of the gazebo.

A 049

At first my father didn’t want to remove the plastic “windows” because he didn’t want to scare the birds, but the birds (mom and dad) kept flying inside the gazebo and didn’t know how to come out because of the plastic.

A 050

So he carefully started to take it down, trying not to stress the birdies too much. But, even though he had the best intentions, he accidently shook the bag, and the babies fell out of it. They could fly just a bit, so at least they were not hurt, but we were all so scared for them! I started collecting them and putting them back into the nest, but one baby flew a bit further and camouflaged so well in the grass, it took us quite a while to find it. My dad was so desperate to find it, and I wanted that little bird to be safe in the nest, not only for it’s own good, but also for my dad, because I knew he felt so guilty. But I found it, and put it back into the nest, which was an incredible relief for all of us! Then we waited a bit to see if the birds calmed down, and when they started feeding their young, and everything was ok again, we decided to go home and not disturb them anymore. A disaster avoided. I can’t describe how awful we all felt when those babies fell out of the nest. But everything is fine again, they will not be disturbed anymore. My parents are even postponing fixing the roof because of the birds.

So, it’s a happy ending. Four lives saved. And a good thing we have a dog who doesn’t have hunting skills, he just wanted to swim and wasn’t impressed with birds at all. ๐Ÿ™‚

This and That

Some days I work like crazy, and then some days it’s more cooking and cleaning and doing other boring stuff than making art. Although, cooking for me is hardly ever boring. ๐Ÿ™‚

Today I made a healthy bread, with whole wheat flour, rye flour, olive oil, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and flax seeds. It doesn’t look very pretty, but it sure is healthy and tasty. ๐Ÿ™‚

## 092

Then I finally photographed a book I made almost three weeks ago.

## 054

It has corrugated cardboard for covers which was decoupaged, painted, glittered just s tiny bit ๐Ÿ™‚ , lace, fabric, and it has a leather binding. Inside are many pages of different papers, something I like very much.

## 058

## 060

Then there is some work in progress:

## 087

This journal still needs signatures to be sewn in, but the cover is mostly done. I think. ๐Ÿ™‚

I also played with fabric scraps, making some kind of collage that I’m still not sure what I’ll do with. The photo looks a bit blurry, but actually it’s organza on top that makes it look like that.

## 088

We had a great time with my relatives this weekend. My cousin celebrated his Daughter’s first birthday, and it was a wonderful opportunity for all of us to get together and dance and sing, which we love to do. ๐Ÿ™‚
