Treasures

Hello lovely people!

I just wanted to share with you a new and wonderful collection of treasures. It is so great to have friends who are willing to let you rummage through their old stuff and take all kinds of bits and pieces. 🙂 My dear friend took me to her late aunt’s house and told me to take whatever small thing I like! Imagine that! After screaming and going all “Ooohhh and aaahhhh” and almost peeing in my pants, I started collecting. Luckily we only had about half an hour to be there, because I would need a suitcase at least to put all the stuff in! 🙂

Here is what I found:

The box above is kind of a piggy bank I guess. It’s leather and metal but has no key. Hmmm… How will I open it? 🙂

All those keys and metal tags, light bulbs, rusty old things, also some not that old but perfect for altering and all just perfect for incorporating into my work! I was so happy when I found them and I still am! I also found this texture tool which is to die for! 🙂

I also couldn’t resist taking home this dusty old box filled with papers and receipts from 1920’s till 1930’s!

M 090

The paper is very delicate, damaged and brittle, but it’s history! It’s time preserved! It’s someone’s piece of life captured, and now that I came to the rescue 🙂 it’s going to be saved and loved.

I can only imagine how old this rosemary is. 🙂

I have to clean them all and prepare for another life in my books and journals. I feel as it will be a way to preserve them and most importantly to honor someone’s life. Even though I have never met that person, we have a connection now.

A Lovely Weekend and a Journal

Sunny Autumn days. Perfect for riding a bike! 🙂

But also great for making journals!

Handwoven fabric, lace, cotton, beads etc. Mixed papers inside. Hand and machine stitched, my big fat white journal, perfect for writing quotes and other inspiring things from the books I read.  🙂 My current “book stuff” journal is almost full, so this new one will be just perfect for that. Do you write down interesting stuff from the books you read? When I was about nine or ten, my mother suggested I should do that and I have been doing it ever since. I wish I also wrote down a title of every book that I’ve read, but I didn’t. 😦

Anyway, here are the photos:

Books!

I am addicted to them. I love reading books, I love making books, I love seeing them on the shelf in my home, I love the smell of them in the library…Crazy about them! The one I am reading now is “Sailing to Sarantium” by Guy Gavriel Kay. 🙂

And here are some of my latest works.

This one is all about texture.

As I said, I am crazy about books. 🙂

And Two More…

While I was writing my last blog post these two pretties were almost complete. So now that I finished them I can show you how they look.

First an altered book:

I used fabric, gel medium, modelling paste and acrylic paint to make the cover look like this, and I’m very happy with the result.

I sewed and distressed the pages and added lace and other bits to them:

The other one is a fabric journal, with a heart (of course). 🙂

This and That

Some days I work like crazy, and then some days it’s more cooking and cleaning and doing other boring stuff than making art. Although, cooking for me is hardly ever boring. 🙂

Today I made a healthy bread, with whole wheat flour, rye flour, olive oil, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and flax seeds. It doesn’t look very pretty, but it sure is healthy and tasty. 🙂

## 092

Then I finally photographed a book I made almost three weeks ago.

## 054

It has corrugated cardboard for covers which was decoupaged, painted, glittered just s tiny bit 🙂 , lace, fabric, and it has a leather binding. Inside are many pages of different papers, something I like very much.

## 060

Then there is some work in progress:

## 087

This journal still needs signatures to be sewn in, but the cover is mostly done. I think. 🙂

I also played with fabric scraps, making some kind of collage that I’m still not sure what I’ll do with. The photo looks a bit blurry, but actually it’s organza on top that makes it look like that.

## 088

We had a great time with my relatives this weekend. My cousin celebrated his Daughter’s first birthday, and it was a wonderful opportunity for all of us to get together and dance and sing, which we love to do. 🙂

A Book for Mary

I am feeling gooood! 🙂 Not only that I finished these lovelies you are going to see here, but I’m also working on at least three new pieces and I have many many ideas for more, so YES I feel great!

So, here is what I made for a swap with Mary. She received the package, so I can show you what I made for her.

. 002

I used some of the lovely fabric and lace she sent me to make this journal, but I also added my handwoven fabric, lace, tea dyed doilies that my Grandmother crocheted many years ago, watercolor paper, etc.

. 004

I made a pocket on the inside of the cover and added a couple of stitched tags, and every page is also stitched and embellished with lace and fabric.

. 006

. 011

. 013

Mary is a very talented artist and a wonderful friend, and it was a joy making this for her. I also made a small bag out of the old table cloth that my Great Grandmother embroidered I have no idea how many years ago! The flowers are so beautiful, and with all the history they hold, I just had to incorporate them into this swap to add a bit more love to it. 🙂

. 016

Inside there is a tiny book and a bracelet (also made by me). I know that Mary loves purple, so that’s what I used here. 🙂

. 017

I hope you like it. Have a great time! 🙂

Twinchie for a Swap

Another little book, 2×1,5 inches, made for a swap at Milliande’s . I am actually hosting this swap, the theme was “Recycling”, and I thought it would be nice to see what kind of these small books we could all make with recycling in mind.

I used tea dyed linen, old maps, tea bags, handmade paper, and found objects. The cover is hand stitched, and the inside pages distressed and stamped a bit.

I hope my swap partner Kalona will like it. 🙂 Check out her work. She is so talented!

Have a wonderful day!
