Some Updates

Hello lovely people!

First of all, I want to apologize to my blogging friends for not commenting on their blog posts enough (if at all). My Internet activities came down to my Etsy shop and a bit of Facebook. That is all I can do right now. It’s because I have no patience for long reads, or any reading except books, because I am ill. I have Cervical Cancer. I found about that around Christmas and since then my life has turned up side down. There have been days of despair and sobbing, but most of the time I have been and I am ok. Right now I am waiting for the treatment to start, Chemo and Radiation therapy, which should be in about a week. Yay. 😦

But, I have to do what I have to do and life goes on. I, thankfully, have a ton of things to do and a ton of things to make, I have been busy with my shop, and most importantly, I have my wonderful supporting husband and our two dogs to make me smile every day.

So that is why I wanted to apologize to you my friends, I am thinking of you, I hope you won’t forget me, I just need to go through all this the best way I can and know how, and hopefully I will be able to welcome Spring Cancer free and with a smile on my face.

But enough about that crap. Here is what I’ve been doing lately.

My studio is jam packed with all kinds of materials and supplies! I have been hording things for years, and even though I work and create and make all kinds of things, I still buy yarn and fabrics and paint, I still get things from people, things they don’t want and I DO want, I still recycle (even more), and I simply don’t have enough space for all those fabulous materials. That is why I decided to offer some of my treasures to other people so that they can use them and make fabulous creations with them. 🙂 Here are the kits that are in my shop (and I have many more prepared ).

The Black and White kit:

nj-138

You have the link above in the name of the kit, so I won’t explain the contents here, I will just say that I construct all my kits with great care, I try to make them big and filled with different things that buyers can use in several projects.

I also have a Blue and Green Kit in the shop:

nj-058

Again, a ton of things to play with!

There is also a Valentines Kit:

nj-113

Then this great Masculine Kit:

n-438

You can’t see very well in these photos, but there are so many vintage pieces in these kits, some great papers, old or vintage embellishments, book pages, fabrics, yarn, I mean, I love them! I already decided that if they don’t sell for some reason, I will use them as they are and make some fabulous journals and small bags, tags, oh so many things!

Ok. I got a bit distracted. 🙂

There are also some smaller supplies/kits:

My Handmade Paper:

Then another type of Handmade Paper:

A small Blue/Green Embellishment kit:

Small Red Embellishment Kit:

And this lovely Pink and White Small Kit:

This one was recently sold:

As well as this kit:

But there is so much more! I have more kits to add to my shop, but let me show you this gorgeous, (mostly) White Kit that I will hopefully add to the shop in a day or two:

What I especially love to do is to use my handmade unfinished tags and book page bags to pack all these small pieces and yarns into. That way a buyer can use them in a project also, and I get a chance to recycle and help this planet a bit.

Anyway, I have been in and out of the hospital for the past twenty days or so, and I have a week before the treatment starts, so I am trying to work as much as I can and to stock up my shop. I will (hopefully) be home for the weekends in the next couple of months, and my husband will also help me with shipping the packages to buyers, so the shop will work normally. I do need that type of work/fun/amusement/thought distraction now. 🙂

I wish you all great day/night!

Heart Junk Journal

Hello lovely people!

Here is a new journal I made!

n-068

It is made almost entirely out of recycled materials. I just looove when I’m able to turn “junk” into something beautiful and useful.

n-069

I took a piece of soft plastic sheet that was sitting in my studio for ages, layered it with some soft (again) plastic packaging material and cotton fabric, stitched them and made the cover. Then I added an applique piece to the front cover which was made with cotton fabric and silk, and I think it looks just right for this journal. Of course, the closure was also made with a recycled piece, a  band that came from my mother’s shirt, brand new, just unwanted, 🙂  and I added my handmade fabric beads to the ends to make it more pretty. There are also my handmade beads on the spine, as well as on the inside of the journal.

n-071

There are stitched book pages in there, my handmade papers, plain white pages, etc.

n-072

Oohhh it makes me so happy! I really love this journal. So colorful and cute!

n-073

The above photo shows an envelope that I made out of a book page, stitched and painted and clipped to the page. There is so much room in this journal for writing and adding things!

I went crazy with details and embellishments!

And that is it! I hope you like it, and I hope it will give you some ideas on how to recycle more. 🙂 You can find this lovely fun journal in my Etsy store.

Thank you for visiting!

I’m Still Here

Hello lovely people! It’s been a long time since I wrote my last post, but I am here now, with something new to show you. 🙂

I’ve been knitting socks (but didn’t photograph them unfortunately), playing with paper and paint, making beads etc. All kinds of stuff. But mostly making journals.

Painting

Recycling

These are all recycled papers and packaging material, painted, stamped and stenciled, and prepared for the journal making. Even though you can see only blue pages in these photos, I’ve made all kinds of colorful pages. I decided to go a bit “wild” and use colors I don’t usually use, just for fun. And this journal came to be – “The Circus”. 🙂

Circus

It’s made entirely out of recycled/reused materials and I love it!

But this one is not going to be mine. I have too many journals already. 🙂

Circus

This journal, as you can see, has all kinds of papers inside, and with so much texture and pages that are different sizes, with lots of pockets and tags, it will be fun fun fun to write in!

Circus

So instead of making a Christmas themed journal, I decided to make a Spring/Summer one. Well, we all need a bit of color and warmth every now and then, right? 🙂 Next time I’ll show you another journal, and maybe more of the stuff I’ve made (if I remember to take photos, lol!)

Have a great day!

Fabric Collage (Work in Progress)

Hello lovely people! Here I am with another recycling project! Fabric collage!

As you know, I collect all kinds of materials and junk which I then like to transform into something beautiful and useful. And here is what I’m doing right now – making journal covers from small pieces of fabric (leftovers) and, well, junk. 🙂

I used some plastic, kind of foamy, packaging material as a middle layer of the journal cover.

Plastic

I’m sorry for the next photo, it’s bad because there was no sun when I took it, but you’ll get the idea of what I was doing. I started stitching fabric scraps onto the plastic, adding fabric pieces randomly and without too much thinking about it.

Sewing onto plastic

Continue adding fabric pieces until you cover the plastic and you will end up with something like this:

Fabric collage

As you can see, after I stitched all the pieces onto the plastic, I then zigzagged the edges so they don’t fray. It also adds details to the whole piece. I like that. Fun! 🙂

Fabric collage

Then it’s time to add the backing, and you can use, again, what ever material you like – paper, fabric, plastic…I used more of my leftover pieces of fabric.

The back

I left it like this and continued working on another collage piece, and then another and another, and I can’t show them all to you now, but I promise I will soon. Here is one more:

Fabric collage

I can’t wait to start hand stitching and decorating this journal cover.

And here is a peek into two small covers, already taking shape and starting to look beautiful. 🙂

Journal covers

This is a wonderful way to tidy up the studio, use all those fabric leftovers and junk, and make something lovely! This doesn’t have to be turned into a journal cover. It could be sewn into a fun clutch or a bag, maybe a set of coasters or oven mitts, or even a doormat! There are so many more possibilities!

Have a great weekend! 🙂

But also great for making journals!

Handwoven fabric, lace, cotton, beads etc. Mixed papers inside. Hand and machine stitched, my big fat white journal, perfect for writing quotes and other inspiring things from the books I read.  🙂 My current “book stuff” journal is almost full, so this new one will be just perfect for that. Do you write down interesting stuff from the books you read? When I was about nine or ten, my mother suggested I should do that and I have been doing it ever since. I wish I also wrote down a title of every book that I’ve read, but I didn’t. 😦

Anyway, here are the photos:

Before I Go

I don’t know how to travel light. I always carry a million things with me, “just in case I need them”. And I’m not talking about clothes or shoes. I’m talking about my favorite coffee mug, my favorite coffee 🙂  (we are not hotel people, we are camping people), all kinds of lotions and medicine, books and more books, journals and pens, etc.

This year we decided it would be easier for us to rent a tent in Greece instead of going with a caravan or our tent. Long story. But I hope it will be a good vacation. And I also hope the weather will be good as this whole summer was pretty messed up – we had rain almost every day. We’ll see.

Anyway, I wanted to show you some of my latest works. The ones I managed to photograph. 🙂

I made a journal with fabric cover made from scraps.

Journal

I like how it looks and how it feels in my hands. 🙂 All those fabric pieces that I’ve stitched together, each having it’s own story and now making a cover for a journal that will hold another story. Wonderful.  And it is quite big – 25×20 cm.

Journal

Here is the back:

Journal

I wanted something different this time, so I made a velcro closure. It’s something that I’ll definitely do again.

Journal

Mixed papers inside, of course, because it’s more interesting that way. 🙂

Journal

I usually get inspired by the upcoming trip and make a travel journal that represents that destination in some way (even if I’m the only one who can see that, lol!) but this time I didn’t think of Greece, the sea and the sun while I was making it.

Journal

But all these fabric pieces with wavy stitching do remind me of waves, and the colors are those of the Sun and the sand. Not to mention the heart on the cover. It definitely represents my love for Greece. 🙂 So, I guess this journal had it’s own ideas that lead me while I was making it. I do like to think that way.

Another thing I wanted to show you is a woven project, my waffle weave towels. Now, those are some serious ‘seaside’ colors LOL, but they are not going to Greece with me!

Handwoven towels

I’m still not sure if I’m going to keep them or give them as a gift. I must say they would look beautiful in my bathroom. 🙂

Handwoven towels

Have a great day everyone!

My Messy Heaven

As promised, here are the photos of my studio! It’s clean and tidy and will probably never look this nice again. 🙂

My studio

This is my Heaven, my space to weave, make books, paint, drill and glue and repair things, sew; also add an office to that and you get the idea. 🙂 That’s why I can’t organize it any better than this.

On the other side of the room is my sewing and office space. Office space is shared with hubby, but he is getting slowly pushed out of the room completely, LOL! He works on his laptop computer anyway, so he doesn’t need this desk anymore. 🙂 My computer is terribly out of date, but I don’t care.

My studio

As you can see in the first photo, I keep an old T shirt at hand to clean my brushes on it. And I managed to turn a computer desk into something more functional. You can’t see it on the right (the chair is in the way, sorry), but the CD rack now holds sanding papers. Very useful!

I also have a “primitive” but functional pressing station 🙂 in one corner, by the bags filled with recycling materials.

My studio

Some of the gifts I received from dear friends are always with me to inspire me and to warm my heart. I wish I could have everything I received over the years on display, but unfortunately it’s not possible.

I am so happy with the studio! It’s not the prettiest studio in the world, and yes I do need to change that curtain :), but it’s mine and I am having so much fun here!

Now you know where I do what I do. 🙂

Have a wonderful day!
