Some Updates

Hello lovely people!

First of all, I want to apologize to my blogging friends for not commenting on their blog posts enough (if at all). My Internet activities came down to my Etsy shop and a bit of Facebook. That is all I can do right now. It’s because I have no patience for long reads, or any reading except books, because I am ill. I have Cervical Cancer. I found about that around Christmas and since then my life has turned up side down. There have been days of despair and sobbing, but most of the time I have been and I am ok. Right now I am waiting for the treatment to start, Chemo and Radiation therapy, which should be in about a week. Yay. 😦

But, I have to do what I have to do and life goes on. I, thankfully, have a ton of things to do and a ton of things to make, I have been busy with my shop, and most importantly, I have my wonderful supporting husband and our two dogs to make me smile every day.

So that is why I wanted to apologize to you my friends, I am thinking of you, I hope you won’t forget me, I just need to go through all this the best way I can and know how, and hopefully I will be able to welcome Spring Cancer free and with a smile on my face.

But enough about that crap. Here is what I’ve been doing lately.

My studio is jam packed with all kinds of materials and supplies! I have been hording things for years, and even though I work and create and make all kinds of things, I still buy yarn and fabrics and paint, I still get things from people, things they don’t want and I DO want, I still recycle (even more), and I simply don’t have enough space for all those fabulous materials. That is why I decided to offer some of my treasures to other people so that they can use them and make fabulous creations with them. πŸ™‚ Here are the kits that are in my shop (and I have many more prepared ).

The Black and White kit:

nj-138

You have the link above in the name of the kit, so I won’t explain the contents here, I will just say that I construct all my kits with great care, I try to make them big and filled with different things that buyers can use in several projects.

I also have a Blue and Green Kit in the shop:

nj-058

Again, a ton of things to play with!

There is also a Valentines Kit:

nj-113

Then this great Masculine Kit:

n-438

You can’t see very well in these photos, but there are so many vintage pieces in these kits, some great papers, old or vintage embellishments, book pages, fabrics, yarn, I mean, I love them! I already decided that if they don’t sell for some reason, I will use them as they are and make some fabulous journals and small bags, tags, oh so many things!

Ok. I got a bit distracted. πŸ™‚

There are also some smaller supplies/kits:

My Handmade Paper:

Then another type of Handmade Paper:

A small Blue/Green Embellishment kit:

Small Red Embellishment Kit:

And this lovely Pink and White Small Kit:

This one was recently sold:

n-137

As well as this kit:

nj-054

But there is so much more! I have more kits to add to my shop, but let me show you this gorgeous, (mostly) White Kit that I will hopefully add to the shop in a day or two:

What I especially love to do is to use my handmade unfinished tags and book page bags to pack all these small pieces and yarns into. That way a buyer can use them in a project also, and I get a chance to recycle and help this planet a bit.

Anyway, I have been in and out of the hospital for the past twenty days or so, and I have a week before the treatment starts, so I am trying to work as much as I can and to stock up my shop. I will (hopefully) be home for the weekends in the next couple of months, and my husband will also help me with shipping the packages to buyers, so the shop will work normally. I do need that type of work/fun/amusement/thought distraction now. πŸ™‚

I wish you all great day/night!

Scarves

I’ve been knitting!

I am not a great knitter, I can knit only simple shapes such as scarves and other things with straight edges πŸ™‚ and maybe an ugly sock or two. But I do plan to learn more and be able to knit a sweater (maybe one day).

As I was organizing my studio I found a lot of yarn that just wasn’t “speaking” to me anymore. Not for my weaving, that is. But then I thoughtΒ  I could knit something with it. So I took three strands of yarn, and made this chunky long scarf:

It’s wide and soft and just perfect for cold weather.

The other one was made for the gentleman in the photo (you can’t see his face because he wanted it that way), my husband. πŸ™‚

scarf

He wanted it striped so that’s what I did, but I added the pattern just for fun. Actually, it’s only a simple change of stitches every two or three (or twenty) rows. But it looks good, and hubby loves it. So I am happy.

The third one is a handwoven scarf.

But it actually started as a set of table runners! I took a fine greyish cotton I almost forgot I had, added a bit of lime green cotton, and wove my table runners. Then I washed the fabric (and prepared to cut and sew it), but it shrunk! And not only that, it softened too! So magically, a scarf was born! πŸ™‚

Well, why not?

Looks great to me.

Crochet and Things

I have been a bit lazy as far as my blogging goes, but I’ve done so much in the studio. Still, not many photos were taken, and I blame the weather for that. πŸ™‚ It’s too dark and gloomy, it rains almost every day, and that doesn’t inspire me to photograph. But I will do my best to show you everything I’ve done, before I go on vacation, which is approaching! Yay! Ten more days till swimming in Greece! πŸ™‚

Anyway, here are my two crochet projects, finished and beautiful.

Crochet

The yellow edged throw is for my bedroom. I used a lovely soft cotton fabric and I crochet the edge to make it the size I wanted, but also to add a bit of color to it.

The pink one I made for a friend’s daughter.

She loved it. That made me happy. πŸ™‚

I also finished making another pile of handmade paper, which means that my studio is a little bit more tidy after I recycled a ton of junk. Now I have these beauties to play with!

I made some tea and coffee dyed paper:

And my favorite “alphabet” paper:

I just love those letters and numbers coming through!

One Good And One Bad

The good one is a baby blanket I crocheted for my cousin’s son. This is my first crocheted baby blanket and it turned out very nice.

V 001

Double crochet, with a simple border.

V 002

V 003

It’s perfect for Spring or Summer.

V 005

But the bad one is really bad. It’s a quilt, my first big quilt ever. I made only one quilt before, and it was a small one which ended up on my dog’s bed. And he loves it! Even though it’s a bit girly. πŸ™‚ I have a very picky dog. He likes to sleep on cotton. My handwoven woolly throws are being pushed away from his bed immediately. πŸ™‚

Anyway, as I was saying, my first big quilt turned out to be a huge mess, which should not be a surprise. I have no experience in quilting, I wasn’t very precise with cutting squares and lining them up correctly, and most of all, why on earth did I start making such a huge quilt in the first place!?! I did try to make it nice and even, with matching corners and things like that, but it just didn’t turn out right.

V 006

It’s not completely flat, I have some ruffled parts which should not be there at all, and I had to cut it and make it smaller than originally planned because some parts were too messed up. But at the end, it does look like a blanket, my husband says it looks absolutely fine (he is so sweet), even though my planned pattern doesn’t look like a pattern at all, but I did use old bed sheets for this quilt so at least I didn’t waste any money. πŸ™‚

V 007

Practice is important, and I will love this quilt as my learning quilt. We will have many happy sleepy moments together and I know my dog will love it because it’s cotton. LOL! That’s just me, sometimes (unlike in other parts of life) too confident when it comes to making things. I always start a project with an idea that it’s going to be just perfect. And almost always it does. But sometimes mistakes happen and that’s ok. I practice, I learn, I discover. And I go to the next project with more curiosity and more confidence.

So here are my two blankets that took me about three weeks to finish and left me with a very sore back. πŸ™‚ But hey, I’m smiling! πŸ™‚

Creative Block

I’m finally out of it!!! Oh, how I hate when my muse goes away, leaving me uninspired and sad. It’s unbearable! To have ideas, lots of them, and to not be able to do anything, to create one single thing, that is terrible! Thank you my dear muse for coming back! I will make you a cake! πŸ™‚

Or maybe I should thank Deb. She organizes an ATC challenge every month, and this month the theme is “Fish”, which immediately made my fingers itch. πŸ™‚ So thank you Deb! Here are the cards I made:

Y4 018

Not bad. ? You have no idea how thankful I was when I finished these ATCs. Funny how glue, paint and paper make me happy.

The holidays are to be blamed. They somehow push me out of my normal rhythm, and instead of having more time to make art, I end up being stuck. Strange. (OK, enough about that!)

Anyway, I have to tell you that almost all of my scarves and a poncho have been sold (yay!), along with a wonderful brown crocheted bag which I forgot to photograph! Come on! What is wrong with me?! But I do have another one to show you. Happy, colorful summer bag.

Y4 012

It was finished a while ago, but I was uninspired to even take photos of it. Poor bag. It didn’t deserve that kind of treatment.

Another thing I must thank Deb for is an inchie fever! Deb committed to making inchies and twinchies every day in 2014, and she already has an amazing collection! You should visit her blog (http://bluetwigstudio.wordpress.com/)and see how lovely they are! It’s been a while since I made inchies, but last night I thought that it could be a great way for me to start making something. They are small so they don’t require too much work (well, you could make them as complex and detailed as you like, but you don’t have to, there are no rules), so it was a perfect thing for me to do! This first batch is a bit simple, but I’m just happy that I played and had fun. And who knows, maybe the fever will continue and I’ll have an inchie for every day of the year! Wouldn’t that be great!

Y4 013

Y4 016

Thank you Deb once again! πŸ™‚

Have a wonderful day everyone!

My Sizzix Coat

From drab to fab! πŸ™‚

Well, the photos are not very good, but you will be able to see the difference.Β  My very old coat, which was very much loved and used, was at first a long one, then I cut it just above the knees and wore it for a couple more years. After that I decided that it was not fashionable anymore, and forgot about it.

3# 019

But no, I don’t throw away things easily. πŸ™‚ I even kept the fabric that was cut off! And recently, I decided to play with it. I used Sizzix Tattered Florals Die to make the flowers, Tattered Leaves Die for the leaves (of course),and also several of my crocheted flowers, and beads. I attached them to the collar and the sleeves, and the coat looks very pretty now! Well, at least to me. πŸ™‚

3# 032

It took me many hours to do this, but it was worth it.

3# 034

Because it is an old coat I could play with no fear of ruining it, but in the end it turned out great and I’m going to wear it again! That’s how I am – when I buy something I really like, I have no intentions on getting rid of it until it’s completely destroyed.

Another successful project. Me happy. πŸ™‚

Have a great day/evening everyone!

Holiday is Over

Yep, it’s over, we came home ten days ago, and I now want to go on holiday again! πŸ™‚

DSC_0347

As soon as we came home I started preparing food for winter – making tomato juice, tomato sauce and other things with peppers, aubergines etc. I have no idea how to translate those (cooked) things in English, but here in my country it’s a must to have jarred delicious vegetable winter food. It’s a lot of work, but it’s a homemade food, which is always better than the store bought one.

So, it’s been a busy week after holiday, but now that the food is mostly ready, I can concentrate on doing something artsy! But since I have nothing ready yet to show you, here are some things I made before the holiday. πŸ™‚

My journal, now filled with all kinds of memories from Greece.

C 039

It was a quick and fun project, made with all kinds of fabric scraps, with a yellow felt circle and a blue lacy embellishment on the front to symbolize the sun and the sea. I filled it with my handmade paper and other mostly recycled papers.

C 045

I added handmade beads and pieces of yarn to the spine, just for fun.

C 048

And in Greece, I had a great time writing in it and playing with it. πŸ™‚

C 052

C 055

I also made clay pendants and embellishments. These are almost finished, waiting to be transformed into jewelry, but I have a lot more that need to be painted and sealed with varnish.

C 059

Another crocheted bag, ordered by a lovely lady who liked the one I made for my self and wanted the same bag, although this one turned out a little bit darker and bigger.Β  But she loved it!

C 026

I also made her a small crocheted envelope bag for tissues or a cell phone.

C 029

C 030

C 032

Now that I’m looking at these photos, it’s obvious to me that the same color repeats over and over again, my favorite, blue. Which also shows in this journal spread:

C 035

It needs a little something to be finished, I just don’t know what it is yet. But no matter how hard I try to use other colors, I always end up using blue. Hmmm…What does it mean? πŸ™‚
